The goal of a colon cleansing diet is too give the body a rest from the high concentration of toxins that it receives every day. Toxins usually come from exposure to pollutants, delectable but unhealthy foods and vices like drinking alcohol, smoking, and using drugs.

A colon cleanse diet requires you to eat fresh vegetables, especially those that are green and leafy. Among the recommended vegetables to incorporate in your meals are onions, garlic, cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage. You must allocate at least 35 per cent of your daily food intake to vegetables.

Beans and nuts are rich sources of fiber so their variants must dominate your diet. In cooking nuts, make sure that they are unsalted. All nuts are great, except for peanuts, since it’s very fatty. The best beans are kidney beans, garbanzo beans, and adzuki beans.

Rice is very easy to digest and fibrous. Brown rice, instead of white, is preferable. If you want healthier and lighter option, go for millet, wheat, amaranth, and quinoa.

If frying is necessary, choose either grape seed oil or olive oil. All other types are not recommended. Obviously, during a colon cleansing diet, you should avoid refined sugars, whether it is brown, syrup, sucrose, or dextrose. Dairy products—margarine, cheese milk, egg, and butter should be limited as well.

Drinks must be limited to water, natural juices, and herbal tea. Anything with caffeine would not be a good idea. Definitely soft drinks should be avoided, even their light, diet and zero calorie versions.

There are many kinds of colon cleanse diets, but generally, the instructions will advise the person to undergo a fasting period and then practice an all-fruit or all-vegetable meal for a period of time.  Colon cleansing diet programs usually take one to three weeks.

If you have existing digestive problems, like constipation or IBS, consult your doctor first in order to confirm that you’re fit to perform fasting and the other diet requirements.

The colon cleansing diet is a complete change as it is done periodically.  After the cleansing period, people go back eating meat and other banned foods, but ideally in smaller rations.  But, the benefits are reaped by making regular colon maintenance a habit; repeat the diet once or twice every two months.

If changing your eating habits for a period of time is too difficult or time consuming, there are colon cleansing products readily available that effectively work to detoxify your body and provide the same benefits of a colon cleansing diet.
